As the days grow shorter and and the busy holidays fast-approaching, I often grow reflective of what it means to be a part of a family… not just my own, but of the greater community which supports and empowers my children everyday.
This Sunday, the 6th Annual Don Benito Autumn Carnival brings student, teacher, child and parent together to celebrate our greater Don Benito family. But, it also shows what we can achieve when we work together for a common goal: giving our children the best, most wholesome education possible in a supportive learning environment.
Tomorrow, when you see the smiling, hear the laughing, and enjoy the singing of our children, you’ll know that you are where you’re meant to be and that you’ve come to the right place to educate your child.
At the Autumn Carnival, we’ve taken great efforts to honor you, our members, and the contributions you’ve made for our school. New this year, we’ve introduced the PTA Pavilion, a showcase of the best of Don Benito PTA and its programs, ranging from Literacy Lab to the Science and Art Docent Programs, to After-School Enrichment to the Campus Beautification Committee. And, if you haven’t become a member of PTA this year, you can sign-up right at the event.
We’ve also extended our reach this year to invite members of our surrounding neighborhood to come and be a part of our special day. Don Benito is more than our attending families, and we want to show that anyone with an appreciation with our school is welcome to be a part of our journey to success.
As you walk the carnival midway tomorrow and appreciate the festivities, please take a moment to appreciate the hard work of some amazing people. They will be wearing blue PTA volunteer shirts, and they’ll be easy to spot. I can’t be more appreciative of the steadfast efforts of Elizabeth Lawrence, our Autumn Carnival Chair, who has dedicated a MASSIVE amount of her life these past few months to ensure that this year’s event will knock your socks off.
I also want to thank our Fundraising VP Sam Alkhadra, who has rallied the surrounding community to support our school, Volunteer VP Carin Leffler who has brought a legion of volunteers together to help staff our event, and Danielle Edell, who has dedicated amazing hours to working with the district to obtain our permits and insurance. I am humbled by their energy and skill. And finally, I want to appreciate the legions of parent volunteers that are setting-up and staffing our booths. Your hard work is a testament to everything we stand for.
Additionally, I deeply thank our community sponsors. This year, a great portion of our event’s operating cost has been underwritten by wonderful local businesses and families who have come together to support our school. At the carnival, they will be on display in our Pavilion and you can see what they have to offer. I strongly encourage you to patronize their business and utilize their services. They are part of our family now, and we will not forget what they’ve done for us.
I cannot wait to be a part of this weekend’s celebration. I say without hesitation, Autumn Carnival is truly our finest hour. Let us enjoy what we have achieved and what we will achieve this year, together.
See you tomorrow on the Lower Field from noon-4pm!
